The annual salary range is $45,198.40 – $72,321.60, plus excellent university benefits. To be considered, you must apply online at the Human Resources section of www.uab.edu. Type “radio” into the keyword search box to find the right listing. Position is open until filled. AA/EOE
ABOUT WBHM
WBHM is a listener-supported service of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), “your NPR news station,” and home to the Alabama Radio Reading Service, a resource for the blind and print-impaired. WBHM serves a significant radio audience in Birmingham and North Central Alabama, and our online presence has more than quadrupled in unique page views in the past year. Financial support from listeners and business is at an all-time high, and UAB, WBHM’s Friends Board and our Junior Advisors are active in helping inform our plans for the future to use journalism to convene community, create relationships, examine problems, and explore solutions.
WBHM is a PC and MAC friendly shop and an increasingly “digital first” environment, where news features and two-ways are routinely put online for web and mobile use by our audience before reaching the FM airwaves. Our broadcast and production chain has undergone major upgrades in the past year to a full SAS digital routing system and consoles, and we are leading efforts with the open-source Linux-based Rivendell automation system.
Exciting times are ahead for WBHM, which is fortunate to be in a market where our listeners encourage us to do more even as we work to build a better community, inform citizens, and enrich the cultural environment. And it is with UAB’s support that we fulfill our promise of service and civic awareness. Birmingham is a city with a storied, complex history. Since the 1970s, WBHM has been integral in the city’s past, and we intend to be a vital and vibrant part of its future as we continue to make a difference in North Central Alabama. (06-15-13)
